I was yesterday evening in a nice restaurant in Bucharest with some friends. During our lively conversation i asked them if they were thinking that they belonged to the richest people in the world (financial seen). All 4 answered that that was absolutely not the case. And they looked all a little bit with a question mark on their face. How could i think that. When i told them that if you have a salary of more than 6000 lei you belong to the 3% of the richest people in the world, they were very surprised. Then they realized that for most of the people in this world special in Africa and Asia 6000 Lei is and enormous amount of money. For us it is more interesting why we don't have the feeling that we are rich. The reason for this is that we compare ourselves with the near environment, our neighbors, friends or colleagues. That was also the experience of an HR director in Monaco working at an international bank. He had the ‘honor’ to give one of the directors a bonus of 2 million Euros. When this director saw the amount his first question was: ‘What does the rest had’. Moral of the story is that it apparently isn’t the height of the amount but how big the amount is compared with the colleagues.
